According to Lance Wyman, Mexico did not have the funds to be able to compete with Tokyo’s architectural achievements. Instead, art graphics were used to create a visual impact at a smaller cost. The entrances to the University Olympic Stadium designed by Augusto Pérez, Raúl Salinas and Jorge Bravo Moro were decorated in this way.
Opened in 1966, the Estadio Azteca was considered one of the most modern stadiums. Built by architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Rafael Mijares, it can seat 100,000 spectators. It was the main venue used for Olympic football matches during the Mexico City 1968 Games.
