Nagano 1998 Official poster. Following the Organising Committee’s wish to edit a monochrome poster, this one looks indeed different from the previous Olympic posters. The small figure of a ski jumper in flight amid gently swirling snow symbolises the grandeur of winter and the aspirations of children in the world of tomorrow. It was produced by two famous artists: Katsumi ASABA (designer) and Kazumi KURIGAMI (photographer) and released in May 1995. This poster also gives considerable space to the Games’ emblem, which was unveiled in January 1993. It is composed of stylised athletes arranged in a petal formation, combined with the hexagonal shape of a snow crystal. It can also be viewed as a flowering Alpine plant, underlining Nagano’s emphasis on environmental considerations in staging the Games. The Olympic Museum Collections
