Lillehammer 1994, box and tube containing ski wax. Skiers and biathletes use a wide variety of waxes to prevent the thin layer of water, which allows the ski to slide, from sticking to the ski. Waxes are therefore made of water-repellent material such as paraffin, fluorine or teflon.
