Physical description

Pair of running shoes of soft skin, unlined with lacing centre front vent. Six spikes implanted in sole under ball of foot and toes. Very narrow minimal sole. Country of manufacturing uncertain.

Leather shoe worn by Angelo Bolanaki (1877-1963). A Greek national born in Alexandria, Angelo Bolanaki excelled as an athlete and tennis player. In 1902, he set a Greek, Egyptian and Turkish 100m record with a time of 10.8 seconds – an astonishing feat. A friend of Pierre de Coubertin’s, he was the IOC member to Egypt from 1910 to 1932, then a member to Greece, from 1933 to 1963.
