The Olympic Museum Collections The creation is composed of the hockey stick used by Jakob Lüdi, signed by the members of the Swiss team that competed in the 1985 World Championships in Fribourg; a wheel from the motor bike ridden by world champion Stefan Dörflinger (1982 and 1983 in 50cm3, 1984 and 1985 in 80cm3); the skull of a wild boar from the Ardennes killed by Roger Nellens, a friend of the artist; multi-coloured light bulbs; Christmas tree candles; a vase of dried flowers; and various pieces of metal. Jean Tinguely loved speed, and was a keen supporter of driver Jo Siffert, from Fribourg like himself; and he spent a lot of time at car and motorcycle race tracks supporting his driver and rider friends. He was also a fan of another sport: ice hockey. "Hockey" is thus a tribute to speed in sport and to the celebration which any sports event represented, in the eyes of the artist. "Everything moves, there is no immobility. One must resist the frightened weakness of halting movement, petrifying the moment and killing what is alive", he would declare.
