April GREIMAN (1948- ) and Jayme ODGERS (1939-)
American artists.
After studying graphic design in Kansas City, April Greiman went on to study under Wolfgang Weingart at the Basel School of Design (Switzerland), whose profound influence is recognisable in the works she produced as part of the Californian New Wave movement.
In the 1980s, she was one of the first artists to recognise the potential of the computer as a design tool. In 1982, she produced an issue of Design Quarterly which was notable for championing the combined use of new technology and graphic design.
She joined forces with Jayme Odgers with whom she produced all of her work.
April’s and Jayme’s poster…
From an open window showing blue sky come the legs of a runner, whose left foot is in the viewer’s immediate field of vision – an optical effect achieved by using computer technology. The graphic composition of this finely honed poster recalls the Californian New Wave style.
