John BALDESSARI (1931- ) American conceptual artist born in California. In the 1970s, John Baldessari began taking an interest in the multitude of information that bombards us every day. A visual poet, the artist works uses existing images. He decontextualises them, connects them and thereby takes the viewer on a journey of the imagination. John’s poster… Juxtaposition of two images, one showing the legs of some modern runners, the other using the iconography of a Greek vase, showing the legs of Ancient Greek runners. The idea is to emphasise the historical continuity between the ancient and modern Games. Offset lithograph.
