Pair of Adidas ski jumping shoes, 1990s.
The first ski jumping competition took place in Norway in 1862. Ski jumping is one of the very first Olympic Winter Games disciplines as it has been on the programme since the first Games in Chamonix in 1924.
Ski jumping boots should allow movement at the ankles and enable the jumper to lean as far forward as possible during flights.
