Energetic, young and optimistic, the visual identity of the Sydney 2000 Games used a palette of colours that evoked those of Australian culture and landscapes. The emblem was designed by Michael Bryce, the principal design advisor at the Organising Committee. It features an athletic silhouette whose shape recalls a boomerang, the outline of Sydney’s Opera House, the sun, sea and red land of this country. The colour palette and emblem were used on many items and documents, such as tickets, relay batons used during races, souvenirs and winners’ medals.
The tickets for the Sapporo 1972 Games were the work of designers Hideo Mukai and Iwao Hosoya. They integrated the emblem, the sports pictogram and a picture representation of the place and time. A colour code stopped any confusion and showed which event the spectator had entry for.
