Physical description

Invitation at the winter sports of the Olympic games of London, October 19th to 31st, from Lord Desborough and the British Olympic Council members. Emblème with Athena and a laurel branch. Caption "Lord Desborough and the Members of the British Olympic Council request the pleasure of the Company of M. le Baron Pierre de Coubertin at the Winter Sports of the Olympic Games in Lonson, October 19th - 31st".

Invitation to the winter sports sent to Pierre de Coubertin, London 1908 Pierre de Coubertin was initially against the idea of Games devoted specifically to winter sports. However, they were officially opened in Chamonix on 25 January 1924. The Charter states that winter sports must be practised on snow or ice.
