Paris 1900, silvered commemorative medal from the French Shooting Societies Union.

Physical description

Obverse: French rooster greeting sunrise on the rifles and a flag, a laurel branch in its left. Captions:"UNION DES SOCIÉTÉS DE TIR DE FRANCE; CONCOURS / INTERNATIONAL / DE / L'EXPOSITION / VIIe CONCOURS / NATIONAL / 1900", signature of the engraver: "CH MAREY". Reverse: A winged female allegorical image of Fame (or of Hope) carries to glory a dying French hero, his broken sword a sign of defeat. Caption: "HONNEUR PATRIE", Monogram "AM" and name of the engraver: "H. DUBOIS" with the words: "D'APRÈS A. MERCIÉ". Edge: smooth with hallmark (horn) ARGENT.
