Replica of the rugby ball used in the final between the silver medal-winning French team and the United States Olympic champions, Paris 1924 Rugby union events made four appearances in the Olympic Games programme: in 1900, 1908, 1920 and 1924. In 2009, the IOC decided to reintroduce it to the Olympic programme. Rugby will make its reappearance in Rio, in 2016, with a men’s tournament and a women’s tournament, but this time as rugby sevens.
