A ski outfit with water patterns for a sportsman with a fiery temperament... Alberto Tomba was a charismatic sportsman who became the first Alpine skier to win medals at three Olympic Winter Games; Calgary 1988, Albertville 1992 and Lillehammer 1994. His explosive skiing skills earned him his affectionate nickname “Tomba La Bomba”.
The 1998 Nagano Olympics proved to be a difficult outing for Alberto Tomba. For the first time in his Olympic career, he failed to medal after crashing in giant slalom. He suffered a painful injury and was not able to finish in slalom. He retired after the end of the season, but not before winning a last World Cup race at the Finals at Crans-Montana where he grabbed the slalom, then becoming the only alpine male skier to have won at least one World Cup race per year for 11 consecutive seasons.
