London 1908, winner's medal, silver, attributed to Harry Robinson HUMBY (GBR), 50m rifle prone.

Physical description

Obverse: a naked athlete holds a palm branch with his left hand, behind him there are two seated female figures who crown the athlete with a laurel wreath. On the seats of the two women is the caption: "OLYMPIC / GAMES; LONDON / 1908". Initials of the artist "BM" at the athlete's feet on the left. Reverse: Saint George on horseback, patron saint of England, piercing the dragon with his spear. To his left is a winged victory holding the horse's straps in her left hand and a palm branch in her right hand. To the right of the rider is an oak tree. Edge: caption: "SECOND PRICE INDIV : MIN : RIFLES 50 YARDS" at the base of the medal. Name of the manufacturer "VAUGHTON" at the top of the medal.
