Physical description

Medal with belly ring and ribbon in Olympic colours. Obverse: representation of a woman, allegory of Glory, holding a laurel wreath in her right hand and a palm branch in her left hand. She is sitting on steps with bas-reliefs representing a chariot with horses. To her right is an amphora. In the background there is a two-storey building with arcades. Caption: "XVIII / OLYMPIAD / TOKYO / 1964 / Name of sport". Name of the manufacturer on the left side of the amphora: "THE JAPANESE MINT". Reverse: victorious athlete, carried in triumph by a procession of athletes, who greets the public and holds a palm branch with his left hand. Presence of a building in the background. Initials "T.K" of the engraver on the far left.
