Physical description

Medal with belly ring and ribbon in two shades of purple. Medal with belly ring and ribbon in two shades of purple. The medal is made of sparagmite and is set in a silver frame. Obverse: in the centre, Olympic symbol in silver on the sparagmite part, caption: "THE XVII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES". Visual identity of the Games on the silver part with the caption: "Lillehammer '94". Reverse: name of the sport in English as a caption on the sparagmite medal. Pictogram of the sport on the silver part with the emblem and visual identity of the Games and the name of the event in English as a caption. On the right side at the bottom we find the initials "IH / TH.M" which are those of the artist and the manufacturer. Openwork edge of the silver frame.

Lillehammer 1994 Ingjerd Hanevold, who created the medals, says she designed them to be "humorous, sober and recognizable" and that their design "is Norwegian through and through".
