Albertville 1992, prototype of the cauldron Ten stainless steel cauldrons were constructed from this prototype; the main one installed in the ceremonies theatre stood 8m tall, 4.70m in diameter, and weighed 981kg. The other nine were installed at the Olympic venues. Each cauldron held 12 tonnes of gas stored in tanks. An electronic system ensured that all the cauldrons were lit simultaneously.
