Physical description

Model of the first trunk of the stadium at a ratio of 1:1000. Base caption in two languages (English and Chinese): "China’s national stadium-known as the “Bird’s nest” – Where the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be held, will become a major monument in the history of the Olympic Games. The “Bird’s nest” is a perfect combination of modern technology and architectural art. Abandoning the traditional use of supporting pillars, a large quantity of special steel sheets were welded into trusses forming a web that branches off 24 trunks components used to support the largest roof structure in the world. This has created an architectural masterpiece. This is a model of the first of the 24 trunks and it trusses at a ratio of 1:1000 of the original. This highly collectable artwork is made from the special steel left over from the construction of the “Bird’s Nest”. Under the authority of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), this piece has been officially named: Steel sculpture of the first trunk of the National “Bird’s Nest” Stadium."
