Turin 2006, costume of the placard-bearer of the Italian delegation during the Games' Opening Ceremony.
Created by Moschino Atelier for Torino 2006
The Olympic Museum Collections
Moschino designed more than 80 costumes, entirely handmade, for the ladies who carried the placards that introduced the national delegations during the athletes’ parade.
The Organising Committee of the XX Olympic Winter Games and K2006/ FilmMaster Group (the company that created and produced the Olympic Ceremonies) asked Moschino to design a structure-dress, of great visual impact, that would convey the identity of Piedmont, Turin, the Winter Games and the Alps.
Created by Joann Tann for Moschino, the luminous skirt is a miniature, three-dimensional reinterpretation of the City of Turin, with the outline of the Mole Antonelliana. The jacket is in wool bouclé with an ecological fur border.
The placard-bearer for the Italian delegation was Edelfa Chiara Masciotta, Miss Italy 2005.
Italian delegation standard bearer’s costume, Turin 2006
Created by Joann Tann for Moschino, the light-up skirt is a miniature reinterpretation of the city of Turin, including the outline of the Mole Antonelliliana. The miniature mountains, skiers and trees are also a reminder of the stage upon which these Winter Games were played out: the Italian Alps.
