Beijing 2008 Launched for the 1952 Games in Helsinki, special currency designs helped to finance the Games. Their iconography gave pride of place to the monuments of the host country, its natural resources and its traditions. Gold coins for the Athens 2004 Games represented the Panathenaic Stadium, which was renovated for the Athens Games in 1896.
