Notes

English film director and producer Danny Boyle was the artistic director of the Opening Ceremony. This old-fashioned nurse’s costume was used in a segment which paid tribute to the National Health Service (NHS). Almost all the volunteer dancers performing in this part worked for the NHS. They included doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, radiographers and social workers. Boyle wanted to emphasise the importance played by the NHS in the construction of modern Great Britain’s identity.
