The name Wenlock, given to the mascot of the London 2012 Games, comes from the town of Much Wenlock, where sporting events inspired Pierre de Coubertin to re-establish the Olympic Games. During the Games, life-sized mascots could be found in tourist and symbolic areas of the city.
