Leotard worn by Simone BILES (USA), four-time Olympic champion, bronze medallist, Rio 2016
If Simone BILES dazzled viewers when competing on the beam in this leotard featuring almost 5,000 Swarovski crystals, her performance was even more dazzling. She became a four-time Olympic champion in the all-around, team, vault, and floor exercises.
Between Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, she added three gold medals, two silver and one bronze medals to her collection.
On 27 July 2021, at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, BILES pulled out of the team event after her first rotation, explaining that she was dealing with “inner demons” and struggling with the “twisties”, a dangerous mental block that causes gymnasts to lose their sense of space and dimension in the air.
Her decision underlined the importance of mental health in elite sport and sparked a conversation around what had been a taboo subject. BILES received an outpouring of support from her team-mates, fans and the international sports community for her courage and openness.
