Sapporo 1972, winner's medal, silver, for ice hockey, awarded to Henry BOUCHA (USA).

Physical description

Medal with belly strap and ribbon. Obverse: Stylised representation of a track and an ice rink. Reverse: emblem of the Games over the English caption: "XI / OLYMPIC / WINTER / GAMES", the same caption in Japanese is above the emblem. The belly strap consists of a plate with the ice hockey pictogram on the obverse and the caption: "ICE HOCKEY" on the reverse. Name of the manufacturer, the Japan Mint: "ZOHEIKYOKU" on the reverse side of the plate. Blue ribbon, symbol of winter, bordered on its left side with the Olympic colours (except white).

Sapporo 1972, ice hockey silver medal awarded to Henry BOUCHA (USA). Henry Charles Boucha is a former American ice hockey player who played as a centreman. In Sapporo, the Soviet team continued its world domination, taking advantage of the absence of Canada, which was boycotting international competitions in protest against the ban on professional players. The USA provided the surprise of the tournament, winning the silver medal ahead of Czechoslovakia. Sapporo was the only edition of the Olympic Winter Games at which Boucha competed.
