Tokyo 1964 – towel belonging to Bernard LAIDEBEUR (FRA), bronze medallist in the 4x100m relay. In 1964, Jacques Esterel was a household name in the fashion world, having designed Brigitte Bardot’s wedding dress five years earlier. He designed the uniform for the French women’s team at the Tokyo Games, and then for both the men’s and women’s teams at the Mexico City Games. This towel therefore probably wasn’t part of Bernard Laidebeur’s uniform and was likely given to him by a female team member. Private purchase
