The Dutch speed skating trials are merciless, and all the orange skaters agreed that the naional trials in Heerenveen last December were the toughest of all. For example, Jorien TER MORS, who placed fifth in the 1,500m in the trials, was not selected to try to defend the title she had won four years earlier in Sochi. But she got her revenge in the 1,000m in PyeongChang, however. At the age of 28, she won her third gold medal and set a new Olympic record of 1'13''56, ahead of the previous world record-holder, Nao KODAIRA (JPN).
The flagbearer for the Dutch team in 2014, she was the first femaile skater to take part in the short-track events as well.

The Dutch team put on a strong performance in the speed skating arena in Gangneung. Jorien Ter Mors triumphed in the 1,000m to secure her team’s fifth win in five events.
