Lake Placid 1932, diploma and third-place winners medal awarded to Emilia ROTTER (HUN) in figure skating. Like many Jewish families in Europe during the Second World War, the stories of Emilia Rotter and László Szollás, her skating partner, were grim. Several members of the Rotter family from Budapest were killed in concentration camps during the holocaust, but Emilia managed to survive. For his part, László served in the German army on the Russian battlefields. After being captured, he endured three years as a prisoner of war. After the war, Emilia married, and László returned to Hungary. He worked as a doctor at the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports Hygiene in Budapest, and became President of the Hungarian Skating Association. Purchased at auction
