Boxing outfit worn by Sarah OURAHMOUNE (FRA), silver medallist, Rio 2016.
In 1995, Sarah was 13 and took up boxing. She was the only girl in her club. At that time, omen’s boxing competitions were not allowed in France. When women’s matches were authorised, in 1998, Sarah OURAHMOUNE started competing, despite the sarcasm of certain spectators, who advised her to “get back to the kitchen”. She went on to win 10 French national titles. In 2012, the boxer decided to take a break when she gave birth to her daughter. Born into a modest family, the woman who always “liked school and always knew that it was the way to get on in life”, joined the elite athlete stream at the Sciences Po university. In 2014, she got back in the ring at the age of 32, but nobody thought she would do much. And yet she clung onto her Olympic dream with all her might. Her medal proved that she was a great champion, standing just one metre 58 tall in the flyweight category.
