Tokyo 1964 – badge and shoe worn by Gaston ROELANTS (BEL), Olympic champion in the 3,000m steeplechase. Roelants, the European champion, went to Tokyo as the favourite and did not disappoint. He won the 3,000m steeplechase final in a time of 8 minutes 30.8 seconds, an Olympic record at the time. In early 1964, he received pairs of Adidas and Puma shoes, which he tried out in the Belgian national championships, but he opted for the Pumas in Tokyo. Donated by the athlete at the Athletes’ Forum
