Sydney 2000 – swimming cap belonging to Daniel KOWALSKI (AUS), Olympic champion in the 4x200m freestyle relay. At the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996, Daniel Kowalski became the first freestyle swimmer in 92 years to win a medal in the 200m, 400m and 1,500m. His one regret was that he never won gold. At the Sydney Games in 2000, he was replaced in the final by Ian Thorpe, but because he had swum in the qualifying heat, he also received a gold medal. Donated by the athlete at the Athletes’ Forum
