Barcelona 1936, poster for the People’s Olympiad. The People’s Olympiad was scheduled to be held in Barcelona from 19 to 26 July 1936. Supported mainly by workers’ sports movements, it was intended as a protest against fascism and race laws. But on 18 July, a military coup marked the start of the Spanish civil war. As a result, the People’s Olympiad was never held. This poster shows the variety of the “other” games and the place of the Olympic Movement in the world. Auction purchase
