Physical description

Medal with blue-white-red-yellow ribbon and plaque. Obverse: Athlete standing on some steps, holding in his right hand a laurel wreath, symbol of victory, and raising his left arm. In the background, a bas-relief illustrating the ancient sports disciplines. Behind, a radiant Greek temple surmounted by the caption: "OLYMPIAD" completed by the mention "1904" on the rock in the lower right. Manufacturer name: "DIEGES & CLUST / N.Y." to the athlete's left under the bas-relief. Reverse: the winged goddess Nike, goddess of victory, standing on a globe. She holds a laurel wreath in her left hand and a palm in her right hand. Behind her the front bust of a person over the caption: "JUPITER". In front of Nike is a laurel wreath encircling the caption "STANDING HIGH JUMP". Caption of the medal: "UNIVERSAL / EXHIBITION / ST LOUIS / U.S.A.". Blue-white-red-yellow ribbon and a crown-shaped plaque fixed on the ribbon marked: "1904 / UNIVERSAL EXPOSITION / OLYMPIC GAMES / ST. LOUIS". On the left is the caduceus of Hermes and on the right a laurel wreath.
