Tokyo 2020, 10,000 yen. Japan. Victory (statue of Nomi-no-Sukune), Glory (statue of a Greek goddess) and Shin-gi-tai. This commemorative coin recalls the legend of Nomi-no-Sukune. Emperor Suinin is said to have brought together two heroes, Taima-no-Kuehaya and Nomi-no-Sukune, to see which of them was stronger. Sukune won by breaking his opponent’s ribs with one kick and his back with another. Sukune is thus regarded as the human creator of sumo. Shin-gi-tai is a fundamental notion of martial arts meaning spirit, technique and physical strength. Donated by the OCOG
