Tokyo 2020, tops worn by Emmanuel KORIR (KEN), Olympic 800m champion, and Peres JEPCHIRCHIR (KEN), Olympic marathon champion.
Three designers, Allan Mmbasu, Phillip Muthuni and Patrick King’ori, won the design
competition held by the Kenyan NOC in collaboration with the Kenya Fashion Council to create the uniform for the Kenyan delegation. Mmbasu designed the clothing, Muthuni the shoes and King’ori the accessories. The honeycomb design created a storm. Despite the praise it received from Olympic marathon champion and world recordholder
Eliud Kipchoge, it was criticised by the general public, and a petition was started to try
to have it changed, as the Nairobi News reported. But this attempt failed.
