Kim Yeon-koung made history by leading South Korea to a thrilling five-set victory over Japan in the women's Olympic volleyball tournament. With 30 points, Kim became the first player to score 30 points or more on four occasions in an Olympic match.
The South Korean women's team finished fourth in the Olympic tournament.
"Today was my last game as a national team player" said Kim Yeon-koung, who was competing in her third Games. "It’s disappointing to end the Olympics like this. But I am also glad to have made it this far. No one expected us to get to this point, and even some of us had doubts."
Kim, the national captain, asked her team-mates to keep smiling despite their defeat against Serbia, saying that they should see the big picture and be proud of their journey in Tokyo.
