Baseball and softball were back at the Olympic Games in Tokyo after being absent from the programme since Beijing 2008. The host nation was one of the favourites, and duly won the gold medal. This was the opportunity for pitcher Yukiko Ueno, 39, who is a star in Japan, to win the second gold medal of her career against an American team, 13 years after the previous occasion.
