All the Tokyo Games medals were made using metals that had been extracted from recycled electronic items over the previous two years. Donation boxes were placed in post offices and on the corners of streets all over the country, and one of the Organising Committee’s commercial partners enabled the public to donate their used phones in 2,400 of its stores across Japan.
