Tokyo 2020, costume worn and prop used by the chief carpenter and by the carpenters, during the “A Lasting Legacy – The Rhythm of Tradition” segment at the Opening Ceremony. In this sequence, carpenters fashioned a giant version of the Olympic symbol. They were dressed in traditional hanten – short winter coats worn by people during the Edo period – designed by Kei Shibata. The rings were made from the wood of trees planted by athletes during the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games. Donated by the OCOG
