Barcelona 1992, pair of running shoes worn by Derek REDMOND (GBR) for the 400m and delegation jacket. Derek Redmond’s race at the Barcelona 1992 Games has gone down in Olympic history. He looked set to qualify for the final, but it all fell apart in the semi-final when he tore his hamstring. Nevertheless, he was determined to finish the race, despite protests from officials. All of a sudden, his father, Jim, made his way onto the track, and helped his son cross the finish line. Jim would later recall: “We started his career together, and we were going to finish it together.” Donated by the athlete on a visit to the Museum
