Tokyo 1964, model of Yoyogi National Gymnasium. Yoyogi National Gymnasium, designed by Kenzo Tange for the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, is located in an open space in Yoyogi Park. The complex was inspired by Western architecture (the Coliseum in Rome, the Philips Pavilion designed by Le Corbusier for the Brussels World’s Fair, and Ingalls Rink, the Yale University ice hockey rink designed by Eero Saarinen) and adapted to Japanese aesthetics. Tange won the Pritzker Prize for his design. Purchased at auction
