Salt Lake City 2002, Canadian team speed skating suit signed by Catriona LEMAY DOAN, Olympic champion. This outfit was part of the special Athlete’s Genome collection. Japanese designer Eiko Ishioka, who had previously worked in Hollywood, explained that some sports inspired her more than others. “The speed skaters offered the most exciting design opportunity because they don’t wear a bib over their suits with a number on it. It’s the costume that is most seen.” For the Canadian speed skaters, she designed stretch suits of strong colours overlaid with abstracted human muscles, which she said made the athletes look ‘’like superheroes walking’’.
