Calgary 1988, costume worn by an Opening Ceremony dancer during the Olympic Images segment.
The donor recalled their memories of his participation in the Opening Ceremony of the Calgary Games: “My mother saw an advert for children aged 10 to 12 and applied for me. There were big auditions, during which they showed us a bit of the choreography to see how quickly we could pick it up. Once we’d been selected, we were sworn to absolute secrecy and divided into small groups, and met once a week for about a year to rehearse our choreography. Each group was given a small section on the stage, and we found our spot using grid coordinates taped to the floor. I was lucky that a close friend from school was also chosen in my group, so I had someone to share the secret
with.”
