With the Marathon For All event, Paris 2024 wanted to revolutionise the public experience of the Olympic and Paralympic Games by offering amateur athletes the chance to run the same race as the Olympic marathon and follow in the footsteps of exceptional athletes. One of the patrons of this event was Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon in 1967. During this marathon, the race director tried in vain to catch her number and exclude her from the official competition. She was given the same number in 2024.
