The centre of the star, enamelled white, is surrounded by branches of oak and laurel. On the obverse is the effigy of the Republic with the words ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE’. The reverse features two tricolour flags with the order's motto, ‘HONNEUR and PATRIE’.
