Leotard worn by Rebeca ANDRADE (BRA), Olympic champion in the artistic gymnastics floor exercise and winner of several other medals, Paris 2024
The words resilience and perseverance go only a small way to describing ANDRADE’s gymnastics journey. Her story is one of steadfast determination, with the Brazilian winning an impressive number of Olympic and world championship medals after overcoming three devastating ACL injuries. While such setbacks would have spelled the end for many athletes’ careers, ANDRADE’s resolute spirit gave her the impetus to reach the pinnacle of her sport.
“I've overcome a lot of things and each time I overcame something tough, I was more determined to come back, I wanted to win even more,” she said in 2019.
At the Tokyo 2020 Games, ANDRADE made history by winning gold in the vault and silver in the individual all-around, becoming the first female Brazilian gymnast to win an Olympic medal.
At Paris 2024, ANDRADE led Brazil to its first-ever team medal in gymnastics (bronze) and won silver in the individual all-around and vault. She capped off her Games with gold in the floor exercise.
