On 1 August 2024, Switzerland's National Day, Roman Mityukov won the bronze medal in the 200m backstroke at the Olympic Games in Paris. The Geneva native, who had celebrated his 24th birthday two days earlier, also broke his personal best with a time of 1:54.85. The title went to Hungary's Hubert Kos (1:54.26) and the silver medal to Greece's Apostolos Christou (1:54.82). Roman Mityukov thus becomes the fourth Swiss swimmer to reach an Olympic podium, after Etienne Dagon in Los Angeles in 1984, Jérémy Desplanches and Noè Ponti at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
