Paris 1924, vase decorated with laurel leaves and medallions representing different sports.

Physical description

Vase with shape named Blois in china of Sèvres. The patterns are: laurel leaves, and four medallions depicting sport's scenes, and on the neck, stylised biplanes. Under the vase, insciptions "S 1924 DN", "O.D.V. Guillonnet inv. Bracquemont sc." and "RF décoré à Sèvres 1924 manufacture nationale."

For the small vases, the shape chosen this time is known as that of the Vase de Blois, and they are priced at 150 FF. It seems that the representations of the different sports on the draft by Guillonnet were chosen and incorporated into a new decorative composition whose author is unknown to us. It naturally took several decorators to perform the work. In the margin of the shop’s entries register, the sponsor/addressee is the City of Paris. In July 1996, at an auction in Atlanta, one of these vases was sold for the tidy sum of USD 9,777! However, one mystery remains. According to the Archives of the Manufacture de Sèvres, 323 copies entered the shop in March 1925 even though the Games had ended on 24 July 1924! Were they sent to their addressee by post? There is nothing in the Official Report about this.
