Berlin 1936, oak leaves wreath awarded to Hans Joachim WEISE (GER) for his first place in Sailing, Star Class. In addition to the gold medal and prize diploma, Berlin 1936 Olympic champions also received a crown of leaves and a small oak tree to plant in their home country. Plant-based crowns are rarely preserved as they degrade alarmingly fast. This crown had to be carefully restored upon arrival to the Olympic Museum to ensure its longevity. Auction purchase
