Background
MILANO CORTINA 2026, Italy
Dates: 6 to 22 February 2026.
Emblem: “Futura” is made up of the number 26 in one single, ice-white trace, reflecting Milano Cortina 2026’s ambition to put sustainability and legacy at the heart of its activities. This is underpinned by a commitment to using mainly temporary and existing venues and infrastructure, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality for the Games and the ambition to stimulate economic development in northern Italy.
The emblem also aims to evoke a sense of integration and consciousness that any single action has the power to contribute to a world which is more sustainable and fairer for all. It is the first time in the history of the Olympics that a popular vote has decided the Games emblem. “Futura” was revealed in an online live stream announcement from the Milano Cortina Organising Committee on 30 March 2021, having captured 74 per cent of the 871,000 votes.
